Liparophyllum Hook.f.
- Hooker, J.D. 1860. Flora Tasmaniae vol. 1. p. 272-273.
Calyx profunde 5-fidus. Corolla subrotata, limbo patente 5-partito, laciniis imberbibus disco plano crasso marginibus undulatis. Stamina 5, filamentis brevibus; glandulae hypogynae 0. Ovarium 1-loculare, placentis 2 parietalibus, ovulis numerosis. Fructus indehiscens, subbaccatus. Semina plurima, suborbiculata, compressa (exemplaribus meis immatura); testa subcrustacea, crassiuscula. Calyx deeply 5-parted. Corolla subrotate. Limb openly five-parted, the lobes not bearded. Disc flat, thick, with undulate margins. Stamens 5, filaments short; hypogynous glands 0. Ovary unilocular, with two parietal placentae. Ovules numerous. Fruit indehiscent, sub-rounded. Seeds many, suborbicular, compressed (immature in my specimen); seed coat subcrustaceous, somewhat thick.
Herba pusilla, paludosa; rhizomate repente, fibras crassas emittente; ramis ascendentibus, brevibus, foliosis; foliis lineari-elongatis, carnosulis, basi subvaginantibus; pedunculis terminalibus, solitariis, brevibus, 1-floris; floribus albis. Weak, marsh resident herb. Rhizome creeping, emitting thick fibers. Branches ascending, short, leafy. Leaves linear-elongate, somewhat fleshy, sub-sheathing at the base. Peduncles terminal, solitary, short, one-flowered. Flowers white.
This remarkable little plant, first described in the 'London Journal of Botany,' from incomplete specimens, was placed by me in Portulaceae; and I am indebted to M. Planchon for pointing out its true affinities, which are undoubtedly with Villarsia and Limnanthemum, differing from both in the absence of glands at the base of the ovary, and in the glabrous corolla, and further, from Villarsia in the not capsular fruit, and from Limnanthemum in the habit and foliage. Liparophyllum Gunnii is a very small herb, 1-2 inches [2.5-5.1 cm] high, resembling a dwarf state of Claytonia Australasica. - Rhizomes long, cylindric, branching, sending down long, very thick, simple fibres. Stems short. Leaves linear, 1 inch [2.5 cm] long, 1/6 [4.2 mm] broad, subacute, fleschy, quite entire. Peduncle shorter than the leaves, terminal, erect, one-flowered. Flowers about 1/3 inch [8.5 mm] diameter. Calyx-lobes five, acute. Corolla short; lobes five, oblong, blunt, with a thick fleshy disc, and undulated, broad, membranous margins. Fruit globose; seeds numerous, compressed, nearly orbicular, bright yellow. (Name from λιπαρος [liparos], fat, and φυλλον [phyllon], a leaf.)

Liparophyllum Hook.f.
- Hooker, J.D. 1847. Hooker's London Journal of Botany vol. 6. p. 472-473.
Sepala plerumque 5, lanceolato-subulata, basi connata. Petala 5, subaequalia, basi connata, lineari-oblonga, membranaceo-alata trinervia, supra medium ad nervos incrassata. Stamina 5, petalis inserta, iis alterna. Ovarium ampullaceum 1-loculare; stylo brevi; stigmate bifido; ovulis plurimis placentis 2 parietalibus affixis. Fructus utriculus subcarnosus, polyspermus. Semina orbiculata, compressa, fulva, testa subcrustacea minutissime punctulata. Sepals mostly five, lanceolate-subulate, connate at the base. Petals five, sub-equal, connate at the base, linear-oblong, membranaceous-winged, three-veined, thickened at the veins above the midpoint. Stamens five, inserted on the petals, alternate with them. Ovary rounded, unilocular. Style short. Stigma bifid. Ovules many, affixed on two parietal placentae. Fruit a sub-fleshy pouch, many-seeded. Seeds orbicular, compressed, tawny. Surface sub-crustaceous, very minutely punctate.
Herba pusilla, carnosa, rhizomate repente, fibrus simplices, validus, elongatas emittente. Folia carnosa, lineari-elongata, obtusa, interdum superne paulo dilatata. Scapus solitarius, uniflorus, foliis brevior, nudus. Flores pro planta majusculi. Slender, fleshy herb. Rhizome creeping, emitting simple, robust, elongated fibers. Leaves fleshy, linear-elongate, obtuse, sometimes a little expanded above. Scape solitary, one-flowered, shorter than the leaves, bare. Flowers rather large in relation to the plant.
