Villarsia latifolia Benth.
- Endlicher, S., Bentham, G., E. Fenzl, H.W. Schott. 1837. Enumeratio Plantarum quas in Novae Hollandiae ora austro-occidentali ad Fluvium Cygnorum et in Sinu Regis Georgii collegit Carolus liber baro de Huegel. p. 81-82.
Caule erecto foliato, foliis late orbiculatis repando-dentatis, floribus paniculatis, corollae laciniarum marginibus integris. Stem erect, leafy. Leaves broadly orbiculate, repand-dentate. Flowers paniculate, margin of the corolla lobes entire.
King Georges Sound (Hügel.)
Statura et inflorescentia V. parnassifoliae. Folia caulina plura, distantia, petiolata, inferiora radicalibus conformis, 2 poll. longa et parum latiora, basi truncata nec cordata, plurinervia, nervis ramosis, superiora basi angustata. Flores minores quam in V. parnassifolia. Calycis tubus brevis campanulatus, ovario adhaerens, laciniae lanceolatae acutissimae, margine membranaceae. Corolla flava (calycem vix superans?) laciniis margine integris, disco barbato. Ovarium uniloculare. Placentae suturales ultra partem adhaerentem ovarii vix extensae. Ovula pauca pendula, in parte adhaerente fere omnino inclusa. Caetera V. parnassifoliae. Capsulas non vidi. The stature and inflorescence of V. parnassifolia. Leaves cauline, several, distal, petiolate, the radical ones smaller and of the same form, 2 pollices [5.1 cm] long and equally broad, truncate at the base and not cordate, several-veined, the veins branching, the higher ones narrowed at the base. Flowers smaller than in V. parnassifolia. Calyx tube short, campanulate, adhering to the ovary, lobes lanceolate, very acute, the margin membranaceous. Corolla yellow (scarcely surpassing the calyx?), lobes entire at the margin, the disc bearded. Ovary unilocular. Placenta sutures extended beyond the part adhering to the ovary. Ovary small, pendulous, almost all included in the adhering part. Otherwise like V. parnassifolia. I did not see the capsules.
[cf. V. parnassifolia:]
In hac specie calyx ut in V. latifolia basi ovario adhaeret, sed placentae jam alte in parte libera ovarii extenduntur.
[cf. V. parnassifolia:]
In this species the calyx adheres to the ovary base as in V. latifolia, but the placentae are extended higher in the free part of the ovary.
