Limnanthemum moonii Thwaites
- von Mueller, F. 1875. Fragmenta Phytographiae Australiae 9:163-165.
Natans, minutum, glabrum, foliis hastato-ovatis membraneis, pedicellis fasciculatis sinui foliorum profundo insertis eumque vix aequantibus vel parum superantibus, calycis parvuli profunde 4-fissi laciniis semilanceolatis acuminatis, corolla minuta alba, stylo perbrevi, capsula ovata evalvi calycem breviter superante, seminibus numerosis perminutis lenticularibus laevibus flavidis exappendiculatis nitidis. Floating, tiny, glabrous. Leaves hastate-ovate, membranaceous. Pedicels fasciculate, inserted at the deep sinus of the leaves and scarcely equaling it or surpassing it by a little. Lobes of the miniscule calyx deeply four-parted, semilanceolate, acuminate. Corolla tiny, white. Style very short. Capsule ovate, without valves, shortly exceeding the calyx. Seeds numerous, very tiny, lenticular, smooth, yellow, without appendages, shining.
Prope Gainsford; E. Bowman. Near Gainsford; E. Bowman.
Radix fasciculum fibrarum brevium formans. Folia ¾-1½" longa, nec bullata, nec prominenter venosa; lobi postici acutiusculi. Stolones foliigeri petioliformes, digito saepe breviores. Pedicelli fasciculorum haud numerosi, sed pertenues, denique ½-⅔" longi. Calyces 1½-2"' longi. Corolla in exemplaribus suppentibus jam emarcida. Capsula stylo cuspidulata, membranea. Semina 1/5"' vix longa. Root forming a bundle of short fibers. Leaves 0.75-1.5 in [1.9-3.8 cm] long, not blistered nor prominently veined. Lobes rather acute rearward. Leaf-bearing stolons petioliform, 1 digit [1.9 cm] (often shorter). Pedicels of fascicles hardly numerous, but very thin, up to 0.5-0.7 in [1.3-1.7 cm] long. Calyces 1.5-2 lin [3.5-4.2 mm] long. Corolla already withered in available specimens. Capsule a little pointed with the style, membranaceous. Seeds 0.2 lin [0.4 mm], scarcely longer.
Descriptio admodum brevis L. parvifolii (Griseb. in Cand. The hitherto brief description of L. parvifolium (Griseb. in Cand. Prodr. ix. 141) fits with our species, with the exception of possibly pentamerous flowers and roughened seeds. But the final character from the investigation of Thwaites in Ceylon seems erroneous. All these plants, as to the structure of corollas, as well as the form of anthers, stigmas, and glands, should be examined again in life. I once called the plant in our collection L. bowmanii, a name that should be reinstated if the species is distinct. L. minimum, on account of the thickness of leaves, the pedicels longly exceeding the sinus, the pentamerous flowers, the longer capsule, the fewer seeds with margins and tubercles, you will remove [as a separate species]. L. indicum, which occupies many places, primarily shores, in tropical Australia, on account of the magnitude of all parts, you will easily separate. L. lacunosum, which is similar, exhibits longer pedicels, a five-lobed calyx, larger corollas, scarcely any style, and a nearly globose capsule, for specific distinction.

Limnanthemum moonii Thwaites
- Thwaites, G.H. 1860. Enumeratio Plantarum Zeylaniae. p. 205-206.
Foliis parvis; radicalibus (sterilibus) deltoideis vel trapizoideis, petiolo plus minus elongato; caulinis (floriferis) cordato-orbiculatis vel obovoideis; pedicellis 2-5-nis; floribus parvis, 4-meris; corollae lobis fimbriatis, disco versus apicem sparse pilosis; glandulis minutis, penicillato-pilosis; seminibus minute muricatis vel sublaevibus. Leaves small. Radical (sterile) leaves deltoid or trapizoidal, petiole more or less elongate. Cauline (flower-bearing) leaves cordate-orbiculate or obovoid. Pedicels 2-5. Flowers small, four-parted. Corolla lobes fimbriate, on the disc toward the apex sparsely hairy. Glandules small, pedicellate-hairy. Seeds minutely muricate or sub-smooth.
Hab. Not uncommon in the south of the island [Ceylon], growing in the water or on wet ground.
Folia½-1 poll. in diam. Flores albi, circiter 4 lin. in exp. Leaves 0.5-1 in [1.3-2.5 cm] in diameter. Flowers white, around 4 lin [8.5 mm] in expanse.
Nearly allied to the preceding species [L. cristatum].
