Annuum. Rhizoma 2-3 mm crassum, 0.5-1 cm longum, radices plures emittens. Folia petiolis 1-10 cm longis usque 1 mm crassis suffulta, triangularia v. semiovalia v. cordiformia, basi truncata v. plus minus et late cordata, antice obtusa v. rotundata, 0.7-1.7 cm diametro, margine integra, utrinque pallide viridia, subtus dissite et obscurius punctata. Inflorescentiae petiolo usque 3-8 mm sub limbo adnatae umbelliformes sessiles usque 5-florae; pedicelli 1-1.5 cm longi. Sepala lineari-oblonga obtusa 3-nervia, postremo 5 mm longa fere 1 mm lata. Corolla flava (ex Ekman), mihi non visa. Capsula sepalis aequilonga v. parum longior, 2-3 mm crassa. Semina orbicularia compressa exalata elevatim tuberculata nigrescentia 1.2 mm diametro, 0.3 mm crassa. Annual. Rhizome 2-3 mm thick, 0.5-1 cm long, emitting many roots. Leaves with petioles 1-10 cm long, up to 1 mm thick, triangular or semioval or heart-shaped, the base more or less truncate and broadly cordate, the apex obtuse or rounded, 0.7-1.7 cm in diameter, the margin entire, pale green on both sides, scattered underneath and rather obscurely punctate. Inflorescences adnate on the petiole up to 3-8 mm under the blade, umbelliform, sessile, up to five-flowered. Pedicels 1-1.5 cm long. Sepals linear-oblong, obtuse, three-veined, up to 5 mm long, about 1 mm broad. Corolla yelllow (from Ekman), not seen by me. Capsule equal length as the sepals or not much longer, 2-3 mm thick. Hab. in insula Pinos prope Cuba ad Santa Bárbara in arena humida repens, m. Nov. fl. et fr.: Ekman n. 12074. Grows on the island Pinos [Isla de la Juventud] near Cuba at Santa Bárbara, creeping on humid sand. Flowers and fruits in the month of November: Ekman 12074.
Obs. Fortasse affine L. trachyspermo A.Gray ex America sept.-orient., quod e descriptione Smalliana foliis 5-15 cm diametrientibus discoloribus, corollis albis, capsulis calycem duplo superantibus recedit. Sed verisimiliter arctius accedit L. microphyllum (A.St.-Hil.) Griseb. e Brasiliae prov. S. Paulo, quod in specimine originario valde manco mihi obvio foliis sinu basali profundo acuto triangulari notatis et ex exemplaribus in eadem provincia a cl. Mendonça prope Jacarehy sub n. 702 lectis atque satis certe huc spectantibus praetera seminibus valde alienis convexis flavicantibus minute tuberculatis diversum est. Obs. Perhaps affined to L. trachyspermum A.Gray of northeastern America, but differs from Small's description in leaves 5-15 cm in diameter, discolored, white corollas, capsules twice surpassing the calyx. But quite similarly closely resembles L. microphyllum (A.St.-Hil.) Griseb. from the province of S. Paulo in Brazil, which in the quite imperfect original specimen is obvious to me, differs with leaves marked with a deep, acute, triangular, basal sinus, and from an exemplar in the same province from collector Mendonça near Jacarehy, written under n. 702 and enough certainly in this specimen in seeds strongly foreign, convex, yellowing, minutely tuberculate.

Nymphoides aurea (Britton) Britton
- Britton, N.L., Millspaugh, C.F. 1920. The Bahama flora. p. 332-333.
[Identical description to Limnanthemum aureum below.]
Ponds on Great Exuma, near Georgetown and on Andros near Nicholl's Town. Endemic. Bahama Floating Heart.

Limnanthemum aureum Britton
- Britton, N.L. 1906. Contributions to the flora of the Bahama Islands. Bulletin of the New York Botanic Garden 4:142.
Rootstock 1 cm. thick, 3-4 cm. long. Stolons rather slender, purple-dotted, 2-3 dm. long, or longer, bearing a petioled floating leaf and an umbel of slender-pedicelled flowers at its summit but no tufts of tubers; leaves subpeltate, floating, ovate-orbicular, 5 cm. long or less, entire, or irregularly repand, thick, dull-green above, purple and densely dotted beneath, the basal sinus narrow, acute, or the obtuse lobes somewhat overlapping; petioles stout, 2-4 cm. long, inserted on the leaf-blade 1-3 mm. from the sinus, umbel several-flowered; pedicels slender, 3-5 cm. long in fruit; sepals oblong-lanceolate, acutish, 5-6 mm. long; corolla-segments about 8 mm. long, golden-yellow, their margins fimbriate; capsule oblong-ovoid, as long as the sepals; style subulate, persistent, 2-3 mm. long; seeds compressed-globose, wingless, smooth, 1 mm. broad and about one half as thick as wide.
In a slightly brackish pond near Georgetown, Great Exuma (Britton & Millspaugh, 2974). Apparently nearest L. Grayanum Griseb., of Cuba, which has larger flowers and leaves, sepals longer than the capsule, and tuberculate seeds.

Limnanthemum grayanum Griseb.
- Grisebach, A. 1866. Catalogus plantarum Cubensium exhibens collectionem Wrightianum aliasque minores ex insul Cuba missas. p. 181.
Foliis cordato-orbiculatis (5"'-2" diam.) supra laeviusculis subtus glanduliferis obsolete palmatinerviis, calycis segmentis lanceolatis corollam dimidiam superantibus capsulam subaequantibus, corolla "lutea" (5"' longa): segmentis superne intus pilosis margineque fimbriatis basi coronula fimbriarum "purpurea" auctis eglandulosis (glandulis hypogynis majusculis), stylo elongato: stigmate bilobo, capsula polysperma, seminibus compresso-orbiculatis muricato-asperis. Leaves cordate-orbiculate (5 lin to 2 in [1-5 cm] diameter), quite smooth above, glanduliferous underneath, inconspicuously palmately veined. Calyx segments lanceolate, surpassing the corolla by half, sub-equaling the capsule. Corolla "yellow" (5 lin [1 cm] long): segments [superne] hairy within and fimbriate at the margin, with a "purple" corona at the base of the hairs without glands (hypogynous glands rather large). Style elongate: stigma two-lobed. Capsule many-seeded. Seeds compressed-orbicular, muricate-roughened.
Cuba occ., in stagnis pr. Los Reniales (Wr. 2988). Occurs in swamps in Cuba near Los Reniales (Wr. 2988).
