Villarsia hydrocharoides F.Muell
- Mueller, F. von. 1868. Fragmenta phytographiae Australiae. v. 6 p. 136-142.
Natans, petiolis folio cordato longioribus, pedicellis axillaribus solitariis geminisve elongatis, corollae pallidae lobis haud v. imperfecte fimbriatis ecristatis, fauce dense fimbriifera, stylo perbrevi, capsula evalvi ovata calycem paulo superante oligosperma, seminibus majusculis velutinellis compresso-globosis immarginatis nigro-fuscis, strophiola membranea rhombeo-orbiculata denticulata. Floating. Petioles longer than the cordate leaf. Pedicels axillary, solitary or paired, elongate. Lobes of the pale corolla barely or imperfectly fimbriate, without a median wing, throat densely fimbriate. Style very short. Capsule not valved, ovate, surpassing the calyx by a little, few-seeded. Seeds mostly [velutinellis], compressed-globose, immarginate, cloudy-black, strophiole membranaceous, with rhomboid-orbiculate teeth.
Ad sinum Rockingham's Bay in stagnis. Dallachy. In swamps at Rockingham's Bay. Dallachy.
Caules, speciminibus examinatis, breves, radicantes, haud articulati. Folia 1-1½ " metentia, non bullosa. Petioli folio paulo v. aliquoties breviores. Calycum segmenta 2-3"' longa. Corolla, quantum e statu sicco judico, albida nisi pallide flava; loborum margines latiuscule alati. Antherae oblongae, sursum attenuatae, supra basim fixae. Semina ¾"' metentia. Strophiola bene evoluta saepe trientem seminis aequans. Stems, in specimens examined, short, radical, hardly jointed. Leaves measuring 1-1.5 in [2.5-3.8 cm], not blistered. Petioles by a little or sometimes shorter than the leaf. Segments of the calyces 2-3 lin [4-6 mm] long. Corolla, as much as I judge from the dried state, white or pale yellow; margins of the lobes rather broadly winged. Anthers oblong, attenuated upwards, fixed above the base. Seeds measuring 0.8 lin [1.6 mm]. Strophiole well evolved, often equaling the third part of the seed length.
Planta imprimis seminibus a V. geminata divellitur. The plant differs primarily in seeds from V. geminata.

Limnanthemum biflorum (Moon) Thwaites
- Thwaites, G.H. 1860. Enumeratio plantarum Zeylaniae. p. 205-206.
Caulibus elongatis, simplicibus, v. parce ramosis plurinodiis; nodis monophyllis; foliis cordato-orbicularibus, subtus glanduloso-punctatis; petiolo longiusculo, basi vaginante; pedicellis elongatulis, saepius binis, in axilla bracteae oblongae, subacutae, folio oppositae; calycis segmentis ovatis, acutis; corolla glabra, lutea, calyce duplo longiore, ad faucem glandulis 5 minutis pilosis staminibus alternantibus munita; lobis margine fimbriatis; capsula polysperma; seminibus subsphaericis, opacis, punctulatis. Stems elongate, simple, or perhaps branched with many nodes. Nodes one-flowered. Leaves cordate-orbicular, glandulose-punctate beneath. Petiole rather long, sheathing at the base. Pedicels somewhat elongate, quite often two, in the axil of an oblong, subacute bract, opposite the leaf. Calyx segments ovate, acute. Corolla glabrous, yellow, twice longer than the calyx, armed at the throat with five minute, hairy glands alternating with the stamens. Lobes fimbriate at the margin. Capsule many-seeded. Seeds subsphaerical, opaque, punctulate.
Hab. South of the island [Ceylon].
This is probably L. Forbesianum Griseb., in part; but it does not quite agree with the characters given of the flower of that species; nor does the author notice the very different habit the present plant exhibits to that of the other species of the section, the stem simply elongating, at each innovation, by the production of a single shoot at its apex, instead of producing, as in the other species (in addition to the fascicle of flower-pedicels), a sessile offset developing its own roots, and a succession of petioled, floriferous leaves, (perhaps more correctly termed petiole-like stems, each terminated by a single leaf.)

Limnanthemum aurantiacum Dalzell
- Dalzell, N.A. in Hooker, W.J. 1850. Journal of botany and Kew Garden miscellany 2:136.
Umbellis axillaribus, foliis parvis orbiculatis basi profunde cordatis obscure palmatinerviis supra nitidis subtus glanduloso-punctatis purpureis, calycis laciniis lanceolatis corolla duplo brevioribus, corollae tubo intus glabro, segmentis cuneatis apice late et profunde emarginatis margine fimbriatis basi transverse plumoso-barbatis eglandulosis, antheris in fauce subsessilibus, loculis basi sagittato-divaricatis, stylo brevi crasso, stigmate bilamellato, lamellis digitato-plurilobatis, capsula ovata obtusa calyce longiore 12-sperma, seminibus lenticularibus muricatis. Umbels axillary. Leaves small, orbiculate, deeply cordate at the base, obscurely palmately veined, shining above, purple glandulose-punctate below. Calyx lobes lanceolate, twice shorter than the corolla. Corolla tube glabrous within, segments cuneate with broad apex and deeply emarginate, margin fimbriate, at the base transversely plumose-bearded, without glands. Anthers in throat, subsessile, locules at the base sagittate-divaricate. Style short, thick, stigma bilobed, lobes dentate-many-lobed. Capsule ovate, obtuse, longer than the calyx, 12-seeded. Seeds lenticular, muricate.
Corolla aurantiaca, 4-5 lin. longa. Crescit prope Malwan; fl. Sept. Corolla orange, 4-5 lines [8-10 mm] long. Grows near Malwan [India: Maharashtra]. Flowers September.
