Areas of research:
Natural and sexual selection in plants
Plant-animal interactions
Floral evolution
Research statement:
I study the ecological interactions that fuel plant evolutionary processes, i.e., natural selection on plant traits and species diversification. I'm particularly interested in the interacting effects of pollinators, floral enemies, herbivores, and local conditions on wild plant populations. This research serves to answer basic questions about 'why' organisms look and act the way they do, and more specifically 'how' the process of evolution contributes to striking visible differences in color, form, and physiology of plants, and especially in flowers.
