This course can be taken every semester
Credits: variable
All students in the EEB B.S./M.S. program in Biodiversity and
Conservation Biology are required to participate in an internship of no
less than two months duration. This internship is designed to provide
students with practical experience applying their training in
biodiversity and conservation biology to a work setting. Exact details
of the internship should be determined by the student through
consultation with their advisor and graduate committee. Students who
are not in the B.S./M.S. program can also take this course and should
consult their advisors.
The B.S./M.S. program advisory committee strongly recommends that
all students in the program complete the "Internship Contract" posted here in order to ensure that
student, faculty advisor, and internship supervisor, all heve a clear
understanding of their respective obligations. Faculty advisors
should specify what is required for the final report on an internship,
but for students in the B.S./M.S. program the minimum requirement is
that a one page description of the activities be submitted to the
program coordinator.
B.S./M.S. students who wish to earn graduate credits for their internship should register for EEB 306; if you are still an undergraduate then you can enroll for internship credits in course EEB 206 instead. Each credit of internship will entail a minimum of 42 hours of work per semester or term. No more than 15 credits of internship work can be counted towards the B.S. portion of the B.S./M.S. degree. If a student does not need the credits to complete their degree they do not need to enroll in either course. Whether they choose to do so for credit or not, all B.S./M.S. students must still complete the internship requirements.
